Adam Lambert walks away from post-‘American Idol’ label over cover album drama
Following what was an interesting (and that is putting it lightly) past couple of days within the world of Adam Lambert, which has included some very good news when it comes to his casting on “Glee,” there is also some other news now to report. The singer is walking away from the record contract he signed with RCA following his time on “American Idol.” What’s the reason for it? It has very much to do with the label’s interest in him recording an album full of 1980s covers.
In a letter to Shirley Halperin of The Hollywood Reporter (who first published the news about the label drama), Adam explained that he is not interested in producing an album of covers at this time, and he instead is interested in continuing to promote and release original recordings:
“Over the past four years, I have been truly fortunate to work with an amazing roster of producers, writers and engineers. Thanks to them, I have grown as both a songwriter and a vocalist. Artistically & professionally, I think it is essential that I continue with this evolution. I am already deep into writing new material with some very talented colleagues for a brand new album, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this new sound & direction. This music is where my heart is, and I believe that is what my fans want to hear. So after careful consideration, I have made the decision to respectfully part ways with RCA. My passion for the music & respect for the fans will always come first. I am excited to find a new label team who shares this vision.”
We don’t really think that Adam is going to have a difficult time finding a new label. While sales for “Trespassing” were less than “For Your Entertainment,” it was extremely well-reviewed and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Plus, he has proven to also be an enormous international star.
We’ll have a little bit more on this story as it comes out. For now, just be sure to check out some more recent “American Idol” over at the link here.

To ask an artist of ADAM’s caliber to do a ‘covers’ album of 80’s music is ludicrous!!! RCA has been stifling ADAM’s creative brilliance by undermining Trespassing by giving it little/no promotion. Trespassing debuted @ No. 1 yet RCA only released two songs from the album NOT written by ADAM … then finally they released the title track much later. RCA has NO idea of the gem they have/had in ADAM. They were too busy promoting other auto-tuned ‘artists’? I’m so happy that ADAM finally got off their ‘hamster wheel’ that was going nowhere fast. Maybe now ADAM’s music & talent will get the recognition it so richly deserves!! Go ADAM!! Onward & Upward!! Follow YOUR vision … we’ve got your back!! See you on Glee!!!!

So happy that Adam has left RCA.. he is a creative and talented artist who needs to be able to soar. RCA ,IMHO is much too conservative for an innovator like ADAM
